Homework Policy and Schedule

Homework is given for the purpose of building a sense of responsibility, and is given with the understanding that little or no adult assistance is needed.  If your child is having difficulty completing homework or is uncooperative, please allow me to address this with your child.  Additionally if your child forgets his/her homework, they have an additional day to bring it in. I am very reasonable and allow students to make up forgotten homework.

*****Students are expected to read a book of choice on an appropriate level for a total of 60 -80 minutes per week. A reading log will be handed out on October 2 for students to use at home to log their own minutes.

Grade 3 Homework Schedule

2017-2018

Reading

Third Grade students are expected to read from 60 to 80 minutes per week. All students will log their minutes read on a nightly basis using a provided monthly calendar. This calendar should remain in their Home/School Binder. It will be collected at the end of each month, and a new one will be provided. The reading requirement can be achieved by reading a little each night or by reading for longer periods on some nights. If a student attends Reading Club with Ms. Morey or Mrs. Gatto, they will utilize the log that is given to them by the reading teachers.

  • Reading Log will begin on October 2

Language Arts

Third Grade students will receive a short reading passage each night of the week (Mon. night thru Thurs. night) that integrates instruction and practice. They will read the passage and answer a few questions that follow.  The questions are based on commonly tested comprehension skills and strategies. The homework will be collected daily with a quick check being administered each Friday in class to monitor understanding.
